The New Haven pizza scene is highly competitive as many pizza joints vie for the affections of hungry residents, visitors from North Haven and Cheshire, and university students with big appetites. Take a look at some of our favorite pizza New Haven, CT has to offer, and contact us with any questions!
Called Pepe’s for short, Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana was established in 1925 and has been a local favorite since–be prepared for a bit of a wait due to its popularity! There are several locations across New England but New Haven is the original. Try the white clam pizza for a Connecticut pizza tradition, or the original Neapolitan-style tomato pie with mozzarella.
Zuppardi’s Apizza is also a deeply-rooted local favorite, getting its start as an Italian bakery in the 1930’s. Try an Italian classic pizza with escarole and beans, a traditional plain pie with grated Pecorino Romano cheese, or choose from the rest of the menu that offers both red pizza (with tomato sauce) or white pizza (with tomato-less sauce)
If you want to go to a pizza restaurant that makes heavenly pizza and equally heavenly appetizers and desserts, go to Da Legna. Many New Haven residents call it the best pizza they’ve ever had, raving about the oven-fired chewy crust and unique flavor combinations. Try the brunch pizza with fried eggs on it to start off a great day, the mashed potato pizza, or even the Honey Pot (soppressata with truffle honey).
If you are looking to have a lively night out with friends in New Haven, BAR is the place to be, with dancing, freshly-brewed beer, and thin crusted brick oven pizza. The pizza menu is simple and delicious, and starting at 10:15pm each night you can buy by the slice. Keep in mind that if you are under 21 during lunch and dinner times you must be accompanied by a parent, and that on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturday nights starting at 9:30 BAR becomes a dance club!
Modern Apizza started in 1934 and has been at the same location since. You can choose from traditional options, several seafood pizzas including Seafood Supreme, and other speciality pizzas like the Italian Bomb, the Veggie Bomb, and more. You can also get a grinder Italian sandwich, calzone, or a classic dinner like manicotti or baked ziti.
Once you’ve tried all the delicious pizza places in New Haven, check out our favorite seafood restaurants in Branford CT for a change of pace, or work up an appetite at one of Connecticut’s beautiful state parks before exploring more restaurants near Branford.
