THE NEW 2027 BMW X5

Here’s an exclusive first look inside the 2027 BMW X5 (G65), as revealed in new spy imagery. Let’s explore the bold interior evolution inspired by BMW’s Neue Klasse design philosophy:
BMW is ushering in a new era of design and technology with the 2027 BMW X5 (G65), and for the first time, we’re getting an up-close look at the interior that will define the next generation of this best-selling SUV. Spy photos reveal a dramatic departure from the current model, adopting a modern aesthetic heavily influenced by BMW’s Neue Klasse design philosophy.
A Neue Klasse Transformation

At the heart of the new cabin is BMW’s sweeping Panoramic Display—a wide, curved glass interface that merges the digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen into a single 17.9-inch unit. This minimalist layout mirrors the Vision Neue Klasse concept and recent iX3 prototypes, signaling a full embrace of digital-first interiors. The system runs on BMW’s new iDrive X software, which eliminates the familiar rotary iDrive controller. Instead, users interact with the display through touch, voice commands, and new haptic feedback controls on the steering wheel.
The steering wheel itself takes on a cleaner, more refined look, with a fully round shape and spokes positioned at four and eight o’clock. A slim M-style marker at the 12 o’clock position and matching stitching suggest this prototype may be a high-performance M Performance variant. Even the center console has been reimagined, featuring a toggle-style gear selector, a rotary volume knob, and a single button—marking a move toward simplicity and reduced physical clutter.
Powertrain Spotlight: M60e Plug‑in Hybrid & iX5 EV

The prototype spotted in recent photos appears to be the X5 M60e plug-in hybrid, distinguishable by its quad exhaust tips and a charging port on the front left fender. This variant is expected to deliver more than 550 horsepower, combining a turbocharged inline-six engine with electric motors. Alongside it, BMW will introduce a fully electric version of the X5, dubbed the iX5. Though it retains the CLAR platform shared with combustion models, the iX5 will feature BMW’s sixth-generation battery technology and is expected to offer over 600 horsepower.
While the CLAR platform doesn’t offer the full weight savings or EV-specific advantages of BMW’s forthcoming Neue Klasse architecture, the new X5 still integrates many of its design principles. The interior adopts a clean, futuristic look, while exterior changes—such as flush door handles, streamlined bodywork, and a more upright grille—further modernize the vehicle’s overall aesthetic.
Production of the 2027 BMW X5 is set to begin in August 2026, with customer deliveries likely rolling out in late 2026 or early 2027, depending on the region. U.S. buyers can expect to see it in showrooms in the first quarter of 2027.
With its sweeping digital dashboard, simplified controls, and choice of hybrid or electric powertrains, the next-generation BMW X5 marks a bold leap into the brand’s future. It’s not just an evolution—it’s a complete rethinking of what a premium SUV cabin should be in the age of electrification and intelligent design.
